Rules and Guidelines for Borrowers
1. Registration and Membership
1.1. Membership
a) Borrowers require a membership to Share Shed Bassendean.
b) Membership is available to adults (18+) who reside in the Town of Bassendean.
c) People outside this area can make a special request to Share Shed Bassendean for conditional membership based on a volunteer agreement.
d) Membership fees are set out on the website but are subject to changes or increases to reflect operational requirements.
1.2. Registration requirements
a) Registration is required before any borrowing can take place. Full registration includes,
i. Completion of the online registration form
ii. An in-person ID confirmation check
iii. Proof of address
iv. Acknowledgement and acceptance of the Rules and Guidelines for Borrowers and the Borrowers’ Liability Waiver
v. Payment of any annual membership fees.
b) Registering can be done online at any time. ID confirmation will take place upon borrowing your first item. On occasion, “Share Shed membership drives” will be conducted where the online registration forms and the ID check can be done simultaneously.
1.3. Membership Renewals
a) The first six (6) months is free for all new members, on a trial basis. Thereafter membership must be renewed annually (every 12 months) with the following,
i. An in-person ID confirmation check
ii. Proof of address
iii. Payment of any annual membership fees.
2. Borrowing and Returning
2.1. Borrowing and Returning
a) It is the responsibility of the Borrower to ensure that items loaned from Share Shed Bassendean are,
i. Collected during Share Shed Bassendean’s opening hours
ii. Transported safely to and from Share Shed and other location(s)
iii. Returned during Share Shed Bassendean’s opening hours
iv. Returned no later than the return date
v. Returned clean and in good repair
vi. Received and checked in by a Share Shed Bassendean volunteer.
b) Borrowers are responsible for returned items until they are received and checked in by a Share Shed Bassendean volunteer.
c) Items must not be left unattended outside of the drop off location during or after hours.
d) Share Shed Bassendean can only guarantee ‘in stock’ items are available for pick up. Items on loan, awaiting return, can only be made available once returned to Share Shed Bassendean.
If an item is determined to not be available for pick up at the agreed to time, due to reasons outside of Share Sheds control, Share Shed Bassendean volunteers will endeavour to contact the member next in line for borrowing, to notify of the delay or unavailability as soon as practicable.
2.2. Operating Hours
a) Opening hours, drop off and pick up times, are available on the Share Shed Bassendean website. These times are subject to change without notice, at Share Shed Bassendean’s sole discretion.
b) Items not collected within the specified time will have the booking cancelled and returned to stock, the member will need to access their account and rebook the item again pending availability.
2.3. Location
a) Share Shed Bassendean is in the Bassendean Youth Services Centre on the corner of Guildford Road and West Road Bassendean.
b) Items for return must not be left unattended outside the Share Shed Bassendean or elsewhere on the Youth Services premises at any time.
2.4. Loan Periods
a) Members may borrow up to six items at one time.
b) Renewals may be permitted on the return date at the discretion of the Share Shed Bassendean, subject to demand. Borrowing periods can be requested via email, during the loan period if available.
c) Members borrowing multiple items may be requested to defer borrowing of certain items based on demand.
d) A friendly reminder will be sent to the Borrower, the day before the item is due to be returned.
2.5. Overdue, Damaged or Lost Items
a) Borrowers accept all responsibility for the adequate transport, responsible use and safe storage of all items borrowed.
b) Lost, stolen or damaged items are the responsibility of the borrower. This includes the overuse or misuse of motorised machinery and equipment outside of the manufacturer’s specifications.
c) It is the responsibility of the borrower to notify shareshedbassendean@gmail.com before your scheduled return date, if any of the above mentioned issues occurs.
2.6. Late/Overdue
a) It is the responsibility of the borrowers to notify Share Shed Bassendean of potentially late returns.
b) Borrowers will be sent Late/Overdue notices if a loaned item is not returned by its due date, without prior notification of delayed return given.
c) Borrowing will be restricted until the overdue item is returned.
d) At the discretion of the Share Shed Bassendean Committee, the following action may be taken for overdue items, ,
i. Charge late fees up to the replacement value of the borrowed item
ii. Take steps to recover overdue items after a reasonable time, including by using a recovery agency and/or legal action.
2.7. Loss or Damage
a) Items that are lost or damaged should be reported immediately to Share Shed Bassendean via the email provided.
b) On inspection and at the discretion of the Share Shed Bassendean Committee, they may request a member to pay,
i. Costs incurred in cleaning any items returned in an unclean state
ii. The full cost of repairing any damage to any item (not considered normal wear and tear)
iii. The full cost of replacing damaged item if repair is not possible
iv. All costs incurred by Share Shed Bassendean in recovering possession of any items (including legal costs).
3. Safe and Proper Use
a) Share Shed Bassendean does not provide training or advice on operation or use of items or equipment beyond the manufacturer’s documentation. All items borrowed are under the understanding that the borrower is sufficiently skilled, trained and competent enough to safely operate the item borrowed.
b) Only registered Members are authorised to use Share Shed Bassendean items. Members must not permit any items to be used by any other person unless with the express written permission of Share Shed Bassendean. Members must not lend borrowed items to any other person.
c) Members must immediately discontinue use of a Share Shed Bassendean item if it breaks or otherwise becomes unsafe.
d) Members must not attempt to repair or otherwise modify items.
e) If Share Shed Bassendean staff or volunteers identify a need for you to borrow additional equipment related to your selected items, either for safety or effective use or any other reason, you must accept and comply with this advice.
f) Members are responsible for the following,
i. Determining item(s) are suitable for the member’s intended purpose
ii. Safe and lawful operation of the item(s) in accordance with any manufacturer’s instructions
iii. Safe and lawful transportation of the item(s)
iv. Use of personal protective equipment where necessary
v. Thoroughly assessing hazard and risks before using the item(s).
vi. The supply of all appropriate consumable accessories required as per the manufacturers specifications. Examples of consumables are such as but not limited to, drill bits, cutting/grinding disks, line trimmer cord, etc.
4. Continuous Improvements
a) This document will be reviewed regularly by Share Shed Bassendean to ensure efficacy, accuracy and relevancy.
b) Changes to the Rules and Guidelines for Borrowers will require digital confirmation of acceptance before borrowing can continue.
c) Updates apply to all item loans beginning after the notification date.
5. Data Collection and Privacy
a) Share Shed Bassendean will take all reasonable steps to protect Members’ personal information online.
Share Shed Bassendean currently uses:
G-Suite by Google - Storage of files and information
MyTurn.com - Maintain catalogue and customer management
Stripe.com - Online payment collection
b) Third-party Privacy and/or data security policies of these providers are as follows:

c) By applying for membership online and using the Share Shed Bassendean web based catalogue and payment gateway provider, members are submitting personal data at their own risk. Share Shed Bassendean is not liable for any breaches of Member’s privacy or abuse of Member’s personal information by any other party.
